Please note:
Recommended age is based on the curriculum recommendations. We do accept students that might be a different age in a group if parents and staff agree that the student is developmentally or emotionally at the recommended age of the group.
CORE CLASSES
The following classes all focus on the main social cognition concepts and utilize curriculum and activities to solidify student’s understanding of them.

The Social Me (Recommended Ages 8 - 12)
Two classes to choose from:

Drawing from Social Thinking and Me (Winner, 2016), students will practice thinking about hidden rules and expected behavior in order to better navigate social opportunities in school, home, and community settings.
Students in this class will work on concepts like thinking with your eyes, group plan, being a part of the group, whole body listening, hidden rules, expected and unexpected behaviors, flexible and stuck thinking, thinking about others, problem solving, perspective taking,...
The group is composed of direct instruction and games and activities to a promote better understanding of the concepts.

Social Heroes (Recommended Ages 6 - 9)
Two classes to choose from:

Using Superflex ™ ... A Superhero Social Thinking ® Curriculum (Winner and Madrigal, 2008), students will practice flexible thinking and identify strategies for overcoming their individual challenges, learning from our hero SuperFlex™.
Students in this class will work on concepts like the size of a problem vs. size of the reaction, respecting personal space, body in the group, thinking about others,... This class is ideal for students who struggle with taking responsibility for their actions and insist on always being correct.
The group is composed of direct instruction and games and activities to promote a better understanding of the concepts.

COMBINATION CLASSES
The following classes combine various social cognition concepts with another methodology such as Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Zones of Regulation®, Confidence building and Healthy Relationships curriculum.
Mindful Thinkers (Recommended Ages 14 - 18)
Tuesdays 5:15 PM, March 24 - May 12, 2020
Combining Mindfulness and Social Thinking® students will be challenged to infer and explain social expectations in a variety of complex scenarios. Instruction will include various mindfulness techniques and how to incorporate them with concepts just as being a part of a group, social perspective-taking, the friendship peer-a-mid, and other related skills.
The group is composed of direct instruction and games and activities to promote a better understanding of the concepts.

Girls Club (Recommended Ages 8 - 11)
Thursdays 4:00 PM, March 19 - May 7, 2020
Using Social Thinking® methodology and confidence building, girls will learn to distinguish what are the expected and unexpected behaviors in different social situations, how to make and keep friends, emotional regulation and other social concepts specifically tailored to girls with social deficits.
The group is composed of direct instruction and games and activities to promote a better understanding of the concepts.
A - Team (Recommended Ages 17 +)
Thursdays at 5:15 PM, March 19 - May 7, 2020
Using Social Behavior Mapping (Winner, 2010), Healthy Relationships (Sondoozi, Loiewski, Tompkins, 2013), Thinksheets (Winner, 2014) and The Hidden Curriculum For Understanding Unstated Rules in Social Situations for Adolescents and Young Adults (Smith-Myles, Trautma, Schelvan, 2013) participants will learn how to better navigate the life of an adult with HFA, AS.
Topics in this group will be chosen by guardians and participants based on their current areas of need. Students in the class will be challenged to infer and explain social expectations in a variety of complex scenarios. Instruction will address being a part of a group, social perspective-taking, hidden rules, and other related skills.

THINK-EXTEND-APPLY (TEA) CLASSES
The following classes are designed for students with solid knowledge of the social cognition concepts.
Students in these classes will engage in conversations and work on activities that will allow them to extend/apply the social knowledge they acquired and receive feedback.
These classes use guided instruction, social cognition curriculum and vocabulary to solidify prior knowledge. The concepts worked on will be chosen based on participants' current areas of need.

Extra Curricular Classes
Social Acting (Recommended Ages 8+ Co-Ed)

Using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, Social Theatre™ can be a way for those who struggle with social deficits to learn and practice social skills. Studies show that collaboration, improvisation, and theatre are effective in increasing social skills, imagination, coping skills, and academic skills. Social Theatre™ is valuable to all levels. Students with lower cognitive/communication abilities will learn and practice theory of mind skills, including joint focus, eye contact, feelings recognition and recognizing social cues. Students with higher cognitive/communication abilities will work on increasing skills in the areas of feelings recognition, eye contact, joint focus, recognizing social cues, perspective-taking, and collaborative imagination.
This is a fun performance class with improv, music, acting games, scripted and unscripted scenes, with physical activity.
*Please note that all actors/actresses will need to provide their own costumes for the performance. Costumes and make- up are to the individual's own comfort.
** Students that attend our social acting class are expected to participate in the final performance. All students who enroll are required to attend the dress rehearsal. In addition, all students will need to attend 7 out of 8 classes. This is for the benefit of your child and the other students enrolled in the class.
