Using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, Social Theatre™ can be a way for those who struggle with social deficits to learn and practice social skills. Studies show that collaboration, improvisation and theatre are effective in increasing social skills, imagination, coping skills, and academic skills. Social Theatre™ is valuable to all levels. Students with lower cognitive/communication abilities will learn and practice theory of mind skills, including joint focus, eye contact, feelings recognition and recognizing social cues. Students with higher cognitive/communication abilities will work on increasing skills in the areas of feelings recognition, eye contact, joint focus, recognizing social cues, perspective taking, and collaborative imagination.
