Using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, Social Theatre™ can be a way for those who struggle with social deficits to learn and practice social skills. Studies show that collaboration, improvisation, and theatre are effective in increasing social skills, imagination, coping skills, and academic skills. Social Theatre™ is valuable to all levels. Students with lower cognitive/communication abilities will learn and practice theory of mind skills, including joint focus, eye contact, feelings recognition and recognizing social cues. Students with higher cognitive/communication abilities will work on increasing skills in the areas of feelings recognition, eye contact, joint focus, recognizing social cues, perspective-taking, and collaborative imagination.
*Please note that all actors/actresses will need to provide their own costumes for the performance. Costumes and make- up are to the individual's own comfort.
** Students that attend our social acting class are expected to participate in the final performance. All students who enroll are required to attend the dress rehearsal. In addition, all students will need to attend 7 out of 8 classes. This is for the benefit of your child and the other students enrolled in the class. (If there is a special circumstance, please contact us at [email protected] prior to paying to discuss.)
